Rusta’s business philosophy is to offer a wide range of practical and stylish home and leisure products with genuine value for money price tags. We regularly update our range to reflect fashions, seasons and customer demands. Rusta is both a direct importer, wholesaler, distributor and retailer. This means we cut out intermediaries and deal with manufacturers directly. Rusta’s experienced buyers have a worldwide network of producers with whom they deal directly. Which always ensures our exacting quality standards are maintained throughout the entire distribution chain.
The very first Rusta store was opened by Anders Forsgren and Bengt-Olov Forssell in 1986. They continue to be Rusta´s principal owners with a hands-one role in the company today.
As of April 2013, Rusta had 68 retail stores and net sales of 2,690 MSEK for the financial year, a 14% increase on the 2,362 MSEK for the previous corresponding 12-month period. Today our 78 department stores cover the whole of Sweden, including all the main cities. Since october 2014 we also have 7 stores in Norway. Each department store has at least 2,000 square meters of retail space and is wholly owned by Rusta. Over 55,000 customers visit a Rusta store each day.
Over 80% of the products sold in Rusta’s stores are imported from Europe and Asia. The products are distributed to stores via two strategically located distribution centres in central Sweden. Some merchandise is shipped in containers directly to stores from Rusta's own warehouse in Asia. This is both cost-efficient and better for the environment.
In 1998, Rusta opened its first office in Asia. Today the company has five offices employing 60 people who deal with purchasing, order processing and quality control. Our offices in China are based in Shekou (Shenzhen), Hangzhou and Beijing and manage purchasing in China. Our distribution office in Shanghai handles distribution via our own warehouse in Shanghai. The Bangkok office manages purchasing in Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. In 2013, Rusta opened a purchasing office in New Delhi, India.
Rusta has over 1,300 employees in stores, warehouses and offices in Sweden and Asia. Our head office is based in Upplands Väsby, just north of Stockholm, Sweden.
Rusta’s main marketing activity is Direct mail distributed to more than 2 million households every fortnight. Other activities include TV, print and online advertising.
Code of conduct
The Rusta code of conduct specifies that workers at the factories or at subcontractors who produce our products have good working conditions, are not denied basic human rights or exposed to physical or psychological hazards. Our goal is that all suppliers and sub-suppliers, in both Europe and Asia, shall comply with the principles of this code. Our inspectors regularly audit suppliers to ensure compliance and make unannounced visits at companies manufacturing products for Rusta.
